The Beatles - ‘Don’t Let Me Down’
Live on Abbey Road Studio Rooftop - 30 January 1969
This is one of the raddest bits of footage I’ve seen in a while; and proof that The Beatles really could perform well live. ‘Don’t Let Me Down’ is up there with my favourite songs of theirs, just listen to that organ!! I believe it’s Billy Preston on the keys.
John Lennon supposedly wrote this as an anguished love song to Yoko Ono and Paul McCartney has said he interpreted it as a plea from Lennon to Ono: “I’m really just letting my vulnerability be seen, so you must not let me down.”
I can’t help but get a little bit sad watching this; knowing it’s the last time the Beatles performed together in public.
